Introduction
Since the official software that comes with this device isn’t working at all, since the pop emails don’t get displayed, toasts keep repeating and most import of all, the device doesn’t give any color or just screws it up all together.
Test settings
-Windows XP Service Pack 2, 3 (32 bit)
-Windows Vista (64 bit)
-USB Universal E-mail/Webmail/IM Notifier (sku 27062)
Installation
-Download the setup from http://www.huuf.info/USBMailNotifierSetup.msi
-Start the installation by double clicking it, if the .Net Framework 2.0 or higher isn’t installed, it will ask you to download it and install it.
-In the first screen press “Next >” (http://www.huuf.info/usb/Setup1.png)
-In the second screen pick the location where you want to install the application and choose for who this application is available for and click “Next >” (http://www.huuf.info/usb/Setup2.png)
-In the third screen you just get a confirmation message that the installer is ready to install the software and click “Next >” (http://www.huuf.info/usb/Setup3.png)
-The installer will install the application in the given folder and creates the start menu folder as such. (http://www.huuf.info/usb/Setup4.png)
-When the program is finished installing you’ll get a Installation Complete screen. All you have to do here is click “Close” (http://www.huuf.info/usb/Setup5.png)
The installation is now done and you can start the application
Starting
To start the application, go into your start menu folder and click on USB Mail Notifier and then again on USB Mail Notifier (http://www.huuf.info/usb/Start.png).
First time use
When you use this application for the first time you can test your device by right clicking in the context menu and choose “Test colours”. A new screen will show and you can now pick any color you want that the device can handle (No Colour, Lime, Red, Blue, Aqua, Yellow, Fuchsia and White). If you get no colour with any of the settings, your device is probably not the correct one for this application, if you get only partial colours your device is most likely to be broken.
Configuration
There are several things to configure in the program, these are explained in the following sections, first there is the main program, and then each separate plug-in.
Main program
In this section the settings of the program itself gets discussed. You open these settings by right clicking the notify icon and then choose Settings. All settings will be applied when you press the Ok button in the bottom.
General
http://www.huuf.info/usb/Settings1.png
http://www.huuf.info/usb/Settings2.png
Check every
The Check every option will set the time between each check the application will do if there are new emails available, you can also set the unit of each check time to minutes or seconds. As a side note I would advise you not to put it on a too low setting, since your provider could see it as an attack on its servers.
Display toast
When you enable the toast setting you will get a toast every time the number of emails change for a certain account. With this you can set a sound (No sound, Default sound or Custom Sound (only wav files)) and how long the toast will display in the corner (if you want to choose 3000 or 3001 milliseconds).
Plug-ins
http://www.huuf.info/usb/Settings3.png
How you can configure the given plug-in will explained in the chapter of the plug-in. You can configure the plug-in by clicking on it and then press the Configure button. If the configure button stays disabled, it means that this plug-in can’t be configured.
You can enable or disable a plug-in by checking or un-checking it in the list.
Colour settings 1
http://www.huuf.info/usb/Settings4.png
This settings page contains the colour settings, the general settings of how the device colouring will be triggered.
Per unread e-mail count
This will trigger when the number of emails get equal or above the given amount and then it will display the colour set with it. This will only have the ability to display one color at a time.
You can first set a starting number, then a colour and then click add/apply, if the number of emails already exist in the list it will overwrite the settings in that list.
Per e-mail address
You need to configure the plug-ins first, enabled these plug-ins and pressed OK first before you can set a colour to an e-mail address.
When you have done all this you can click an e-mail address, then a colour and press Apply.
Colour settings 2
http://www.huuf.info/usb/Settings5.png
These settings have the influence on when the device change colour, how it will blink at that time.
-Only re-blink when there is a change in the e-mail count
-When disabled it will restart the blinking procedure every time the e-mails get checked
-When enabled it will only restart the blinking procedure when there is a change in the number of unread emails.
Time settings for the number of unread e-mails
-Infinite and For x ms: How long the blinking will go on, this includes on and off time.
-On time: The number of milliseconds the device stays on.
-Off time: The number of milliseconds the device stays off.
-Burn constant at 0 emails: When enabled this will set the colour and will stay on when there are 0 unread e-mails.
-Burn constantly after the cycle ends
-When disabled the device will turn itself off after the For x ms has expired.
-When enabled the device will stay on after the For x ms has expired.
Time settings per e-mail address
-Infinite and For x times: This will give the amount it will switch between the colours of the accounts with unread e-mails.
-Switch every x ms: This setting gives the number of milliseconds it will stay at the colour for the given account with unread e-mails.
Devices
http://www.huuf.info/usb/Settings6.png
In this screen you can enable or disable certain devices if you have multiple programs setting different colours to different devices or you could just enable the “Set to all devices” checkbox to set all devices to the given colour. These settings are also in effect in the Colour test screen.
IMAP Plug-in
Open the plug-in settings through the general settings screen.
Enter your username and password and select a server from the combo box or enter your own server settings. After you configured your account press Check. If there are no errors it will be automatically added to your list.
You can delete an account by clicking on it and then press delete.
IMAP Plug-in 2 (gmail!)
Use this plugin to check for new emails at gmail.
Open the plug-in settings through the general settings screen.
Enter your username and password and select a server from the combo box (only gmail for now) or enter your own server settings. After you configured your account press Check. If there are no errors it will be automatically added to your list.
You can delete an account by clicking on it and then press delete.
POP Plug-in

When the pop-plugin is enabled you can mark the emails by opening the context menu, then choose plug-in functions and then Reset POP mail count. This is when the e-mails keep on the server like hotmail. Else you’ll get the total amount of emails in the toast.
Unread Mail Count
Open the plug-in settings through the general settings screen.
The visible accounts are managed by other applications and cannot be configured. Only be enabled or disabled. After you enabled/disabled the e-mail accounts press OK.

And you will know that my name is Webmaestro
when I lay my vengeance upon thee!
This way i can see if i can reproduce it and then get the color myself by reversing the program.
It didnt made any difference when I changed the setting for the number of emails.. I even tried to mark all my outlook messages as unread (over 850) and tried with different settings but couldnt display anything else than red.

Red, green and blue LED have 64 levels of brightness and are very easy to control. If the red LED doesn't work the same as green and blue, there's something wrong with your devices and you should return them to DX.
and markostamcar I think some devices use a different chip, can you give your VID and PID (mine is 1294 and 1320).
If the device indeed was faulty, it would not return the HID info.
Also the version you have is not 64 bit compatible, it has some wrong structures in it for 64 bit.
If it is indeed broken then we should get different results from
http://www.huuf.info/TestUSBMailNotifier.rar
with me it gives with
0=nothing
1=green
2=Nothing
3=blue
4=White / blue
5=Green
6=Blue
7 and up=White
