Latest batch is bad

    The latest batch has a subtly different label... and a very different capacity. I just tested a cell that arrived a couple of days ago - a mere 990mAh down to 3V. I'm not impressed!

    I'm presently testing a cell from a previous pair and after 35 minutes it's holding 0.12V higher. After that the new cell just goes downhill increasingly fast and any comparison with voltage is rather pointless.

    The new label is very similar. The only two changes I've noticed are the brown half tones on the flame makes that part of the flame on the old cells more prominent, while the red is more prominent on the new cells. The other difference is a new crossed out rubbish bin symbol on the new cells to the left of the CE logo.

    The other strange thing is that the two new cells are noticeably different lengths from each other!

    the different colors and lengths would suggest a new manufacturer, let Dx know and they might switch suppliers, i know i would to avoid future problems

    When I finish testing the older cell (it's looking like it'll have at least twice the capacity) I'll test the other new cell. I think it's not as bad as the one I have already tested and we might give a clearer idea of what's going on. It might just be a single bad cell.

    A couple of nights ago I used these 3 cells to power a 10W LED. After I was suddenly left in the dark more than an hour earlier than I expected I measured the voltage on the cells:

    Old cell = 3.79V
    New longer cell = 3.70V
    New short cell = 3.15V

    So the other new cell might be almost as good as it should be.

    - Protective circuitry kicks in when voltage is over 4.2V while charging, 2.75V while discharging

    Nope. When I did my test the protection circuit activated at under 2.4V. So much for protection.

    The older cell got 2310mAh to 3.0V and the protection circuit had not activated by 2.58V. It's (still) a good cell so I terminated the test.

    Hmm... that's not good news. I recently ordered 9 pairs, and they arrived two weeks ago. I haven't tested them yet. They also have the crossed-out rubbish bin next to the CE mark. I'll run a capacity test and report back as well.
    What's up with the scrubbed LED driver IC markings?
    What are they trying to hide?

    The second cell from the new pair managed 1845mAh down to 3V - not good, only 80% of the older cell. I rescued it when the voltage was 2.55V and dropping like a stone with no sign of a protection circuit activating at 2.75V. Huh.

    It caught me by surprise because it had a somewhat different discharge curve to the other two - very linear down to a lower voltage than the other two, then a very sudden fade.

    I'm quite disappointed with the consistency.

    Hmm.. I have ordered 4 pairs on 29/11 that are on backorder. Wonder if I should cancel or if they will have this sorted by the time they are sent out?

    Incidentally I have orders on 16/11 still backorder.. not sure if any TF Flame's in those so waiting on them before ship.. but some trivial gadgets mostly.. hmm.

    Out of the box, mine discharged 1240mAh to 3.0V. I charged it up and it took in 1910mAh. Internal resistance is 122miliohms. I am discharging it again just to doublecheck.
    What's up with the scrubbed LED driver IC markings?
    What are they trying to hide?
