Do all apps work at this resolution?

  • Retroid Saturday, October 27, 2012 1:33 PM Reply
This looks like a good way to give Android a try before spending a lot on a full size tablet, but I wonder if the resolution is too low to be practical.

Do all apps and games generally work properly at only 480 x 272? I don't plan to use anything too graphically intensive, but I'm thinking that even something simple like solitaire might be hard to play.

Android was originally designed for phone screens where the typical screen was 320 x 480, so some apps may be cut off at the top/bottom(landscape mode), depends on app and Android OS version, read more info here http://developer.android.com/guide/practices/screen-compat-mode.html

Thanks for the replies. Perhaps I'll go for something with a bigger screen then.

Screen resolution is not really a problem to run most applications: basically the more pixels your screen has, the more detailed.

You can control how big/small elements are if you can change the dpi settings. The less dpi, the smaller things look on screen.

However, for that you'll need a rooted device (the first model of the tablet came rooted off the box, the third (which is the one I've got) can be rooted after an update from the manufacturer. Don't know about the second.

Since the device has got enough buttons at the top, if you root it you can also use apps such as Gesture Control, which can hide the status bar, so you have a bit more screen space.

    Hope it helps.
