What do affiliate links look like?

  • TalTalK Sunday, October 28, 2012 1:35 AM Reply
is it just the link itself plus the number you were assigned? e.g. http://dx.com/s/EGG+MOLD/234578234?

I wish I could point you to the official sticky thread, but this is the "new and improved" site, so I will have to point you towards the official post, buried in a thread containing 50 pages or more of posts........

Thanks! So to be sure, it would be like this?

    dx.com/p/4-in-1-cute-shape-pp-plastic-boiled-egg-rice-mold-food-maker-translucent-100437?item=2?Utm_rid=65446730&Utm_source=affiliate

The link itself works, but it pretty much always works as long as the beginning is right...

    Thanks so much!

Interesting how that particular long version of the links isn't specified in the official post lol. Though I only just noticed that the post merely lists "sample URLs", rather than claiming to be a definitive guide (which may never see the light of day on the official sticky thread).

The "?item=2" part isn't required, but shouldn't cause a problem either.

Thanks! It's exactly from the the thread you posted:

Example 2: Link to our popular iPod earbuds:
    http://dx.com/p/1138?Utm_rid=xxx&Utm_source=affiliate

Is there a place where I can see how many people clicked on the link so I know it's working? I see on my blog that they have clicked through (I have tracking through Pretty Links, a plugin I use to change the links and make them friendlier).

    Thanks, by the way :-)

Also, should I be removed the actual link changing it to the ID of the item instead of the long name?

The way the "new and improved" scheme is being explained, it should not matter whether you use the long or short versions of the links. Whichever you prefer should be fine.

The only feedback I believe you get is when the clicked through, follow through and make an actual purchase. Some time after that (it can take a couple of days at times it seems) an entry will appear in your points (under "My Account" from the main menu) list to show your earned referral points per transaction.

    Thanks.

So there's no way to see click throughs, only purchases?

I'm new to this, but I use b_itly. (dx says b_itly is blacklisted, otherwise there wouldn't be an underscore "_" there)
    For example:
    dx.com/p/126467?Utm_rid=49885109&Utm_source=affiliate
    is now b_it.ly/RvyMAz
and has some nice stats revolving it to reflect the clicks :)
