I have a desktop PC (Win 7 64b) with a 'Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller' card but no wifi network card.
What kind of additional hardware and cables would I need to connect this antenna to my PC and pick up external wifi signals?

You need a Wi-Fi router or USB Wi-Fi adapter with SMA antenna connector. Wi-Fi devices with detachable antenna (SMA connector) are OK.
