January 2015: 4 years old stock?

  • eatatjoes10 Wednesday, January 14, 2015 7:59 AM Reply
Received one on 12th january 2015:
capacity is only 1180mAh at 500mA discharge down to 9V (!), and very low voltage levels.

The battery arrived perfectly balanced, with 3,8V each cell, so I hoped, it is still in good shape. But after 5 cycles it remains at a very low capacity.
Also, at a bit higher discharge of 1,6-1,7A (still only "0,8C"!), it is even worse: down to 10V in only 35 minutes (<1000mAh), and only 10,5V with no load after that.
I'd call it pretty damn dead.

I have some 6 years old Lipos, that are never used (only recharged when too low), but they are still in much better shape after that time...

    Not recommended!

Could it not just be a faulty battery?

This was added 11/25/2010, so maybe you got some old stock? My experience with li-pos here has been mixed. Some were good, but some had rather high voltage drop and heated up more than I liked, so I'm not too impressed. I have to wonder how fresh DX's lipo's are, since they aren't that well known as a li-po seller. Most RC hobbyists I know buy from another vendor, which is known as the online "king of hobby" stores.

I would submit a ticket and see if DX will give you a refund/credit.
What's up with the scrubbed LED driver IC markings?
What are they trying to hide?

Yeah, still thinking about the refund.

This order was a fault, as I ordered a Turnigy 2200mAh from the HobbyQueen before this one (it's perfect, but with some shipping cost), and forgot about it. So I don't need a replacement, but refund would be a good idea.

I just wanted to inform others about this different experience with this item.
