Mistake? Power Output?

  • LarsStryhn Friday, May 26, 2017 7:00 PM Reply

That has to be a mistake. That big of a device, the text "High power" and pictures insinuating that it can ligth fire, and then 5mw?

Please, someone, what is the actual output of this device? 500 mW? 5W(!!) or?

ZHAOYAO is a brand that lies about its specs, sku.466437 for example.

pictures insinuating that it can ligth fire

Yes, but what does this picture insinuate?

I believe DX is only allowed to sell lasers up to 5mW, so that's what they're claimed to be.

@Maye_Tao this image is highly irresponsible. If the laser is powerful enough to light anything everyone in the area should be wearing laser safety goggles. Lasers powerful enough to ignite materials can blind instantly.

And because smoking is a disgusting habit/addiction.

I remember (very long ago) buying the Firepoint 500mw over here, if my mind serves

me well it was labeled as a 5mw laserpointer because of some laws back then ('09-ish?).

Man, did that thing burn. Burned my wallet too with it's $600 price BTW.

    Anyway, back ontopic..

I doubt this 5mw is really only 5mw, it comes with goggles after all.

I also bought some 200mw, 300mw and 500mw on DealExtreme some years ago. - It might have been before 09 though.

Never heard of any laws like such. - But they might be local HK laws. - I am surprised that they did not just figure out a way of sending them from other countries.

It is possible to buy them at bulk sales and just selling them locally here, but I am not into that, I want one with acutal specs.

     - So much have changed with DX over the years, and a lot for the lesser good unfortunately.

But does anyonbe have any idea of the actual output of this? THe price tag could be could, but it could also be awful. If the 5mW(which I dont think anyone believes) then it is far overpriced, but it could be packing a watt or 2, maybe even 3 and then we would have a good deal.

Judging by the size of it it as well suggests that it would be a lot more than just a stupid gag on 5mW.

the simplest explanation is usually correct, my guess is that DX is still using the older stock images from before the new laser power limit regulations, and yes it's crazy, the blue lasers put out a ton of IR leakage, the amount of power needed to light a cigar, well you would see not only smoke before your eyes but maybe also spots........forever!

It's green lasers which pump out IR because they use a frequency doubler to produce green from IR, but not all the IR is converted. Blue lasers produce blue light directly because they use a blue laser diode.

You're completely right about just the laser dot being dangerous, especially at close range (like a cigar length away). For the same output power, green lasers at 532 nm are 23 times more visible than this blue laser at 450 nm, but the blue photons have 18% higher energy.

Thank you for your try Maye_Tao

Unfortunately that answer seems just as untrue as the original. - If you are telling the truth, then all the pictures are for sure lying, no 10mW laser pointer would be able to light anything.
