Same SKU but different phone

  • PeterC1967 Sunday, August 27, 2017 6:47 PM Reply

I ordered a Xiaomi Redmi Note 4x with Snapdragon 625 processor (4GB Ram / 64GB storage), but when it arrived, i got the same phone with a Mediatek Helio X20 processor.  The SKU was the same, but it's a different phone (which I don't want because this version does not support LineageOS).  I find it very disappointing that you don't send me what I ordered, and demand an immediate replacement or full refund + compensation.

    LOL

You must be new at ordering things from China. You'll get a refund or replacement, but it definitely won't be immediately.

NO! I don't know why DX screwed up the site so badly.
    Ask them.

I already made a ticket (of course), just trying to shake the tree as much as possible to have a quick solution.

Peter, what is the SKU# of the one you bought? I just went through the listings and they sure are confusing! There are, as you said, two different versions of this same model, the one they probably call the "Global Version" (a term I object to), which has the MTK Helio X20 Processor with 4GB RAM and 64GB ROM. I can find only three of them: SKU: 852470030,  SKU: 852470026 and SKU: 852470024.

All the others seem to be the "Chinese Version" (a more appropriate term) because they have firmware designed for the Chinese market. (*They can probably be flashed with a ROM more useful elsewhere in the world. *Citation required.) This version has the Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 MSM8953 processor, but only 3Gb RAM and 32GB ROM. The ones in this category I found are: SKU: 852470025, SKU: 462032, SKU: 852465205, SKU: 852460130, SKU: 852465206, SKU: 462033, SKU: 462031, SKU: 461551, SKU: 852460129. Some of these are listed twice but there doesn't seem to be any having the same SKU number with different specifications. The only noticable difference with the duplicate listings is different price for the same item.

Please note: Because phone listings on DX are so confusing, I may be totally wrong with some of the above information and would welcome discussion with anyone with information to the contrary.

The phone I ordered was the 4/64GB global version with the Snapdragon processor, with SKU 852470024 .  Strangely enough this SKU now is the Mediatek version.  The only proof I have of this, is the order confirmation that says "octa-core" and links to the hexa-core MTK version.  the 4/64GB Snapdragon version doesn't seem to exist anymore.  So basically they changed the specs of the SKU to a different (inferior) phone.  I specifically ordered the Snapdragon version (codename "mido") because there exists a LineageOS ROM for it.

If this is how DX works (i.e. changing the product linked to a SKU after an order), this was my last time shopping here...

In fact Peter, there is definite evidence supporting your claim in "Discussions" on the product page of  SKU: 852470026. This is the same phone in colour black.
    See: http://club.dx.com/forums/Forums.dx/threadid.1473400    (August 05)

As you can see, the OP (amandasalvatore) asked for verification that the phone had the "Snapdragon 625 or is it Mediatek Helio x20". I can assure you that the reply I sent was copy/pasted direct from the specification at that time. On August 06 it read: CPU Processor - "Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 MSM8953" but has been changed since to: CPU Processor- "MTK Helio X20 Hexa-core 2.1GHz".

It is just a fluke that I saw this thread and remembered a previous discussion about this phone. In future Peter, may I suggest you open your thread in the Product Forum because the information regarding change to the specification here may be just as important to other customers as it is to you.

This is my first time using the forums, so I didn't even know you could post messages to a specific SKU. It looks like they did the exact same thing for the black version as for mine (gold): change the specs of the SKU after my order.

I'll start a thread on this SKU also, hopefully that'll warn other people wanting to buy a specific phone because of the processor.

Also there is a review for the phone I bought, proving that i'm not the only one who ordered the Snapdragon version and got the Mediatek: http://club.dx.com/reviews/852470024/828154

Could you paste a link to the "product forum" so that I can cross-post there? or is that frowned upon?
