Wondering about whether to cancel my order or not.

  • soberskunk Tuesday, October 10, 2017 2:45 PM Reply

    Hi people of DX :-)

I have made my first order via your website, and just in time for the Chinese holidays, it seems.

The order# is 170929001019747016. I ordered on September 29, paid via Paypal, and within minutes (if I remember correctly) the order was on 'Preparing Shipment', with the Shipping Method: Expedited.

    No status update since :'(

I am afraid that after lots of more waiting time I will be told 'Oh, sorry, we don't have it in stock' - which would mean this would be me first and very last purchase via DX.

Can you please help me out?

    Thank you :-)

The only thing I can say is I never use expedited shipping. DX and/or China Post just don't seem to work that way.

DX has found a new way to deceive customers:
Use reviews for different products that have not been bought

DX is mentioning 7-10 business with their "ëxpedited shipping" which
might not be that fast as DHL or Fedex , but this fine for me. I just
did not expect DX would need so much time before actual shipment takes
place. But OK, it was holiday I learnt. Hopefully my order from 25/9
will still be shipped this week, and hopefully the carrier does not come
    up with further delays.

I ordered once from another Chinese webshop, and  it  took about 4 weeks before my parcel reached my place in the
    Netherlands, with "normal mail".

Indeed , it would be interesting to see how long
the actual transit time with "expedited shipping" will take. Just to see if it's worth the extra €15 for Expedited
    services. Will let you know.

"DX is mentioning 7-10 business with their "ëxpedited shipping""

If I remember correctly the 'expedited shipping' says '4-7 business days', the normal shipping method is 7-10 business days.

You can find the "expected" times of arrival here: http://cs.dx.com/FAQ/Detail/8.

Take particular note of the paragraph at the bottom:

All times listed are estimates and are not guaranteed.  Exact time varies with exact destination. Holiday season orders can experience 2-3 week delays. Please see here for a list of all holidays.

In reality, there is a HUGE difference between best and worst case scenarios. We customers need to develop more flexible expectations and vendors (including DX) should not quote the shortest probable time as the norm.

When customers read "Expedited Mail 7-15 business days", many get angry if it doesn't arrive within a week! DX keep their fingers crossed when quoting delivery times, when in fact they have no say in what happens to a parcel once it is out their door.

There are dozens of things that can cause delays. A one week holiday in China for instance can snowball into an extra two weeks before the Post, Customs, Air Cargo schedules and everything else catch up, and that's only on the China end of the delivery, so hope for the best but prepare for the worst. The worst could be much more than 15 business days! Good luck.

    Edit: Full stop after link.

http://cs.dx.com/FAQ/Detail/8 without the full stop works better.

Using "business days" is confusing/misleading as well. "15 business days" sounds much better than "three weeks".

Edit: https://cs.dx.com/FAQ/Detail/19 doesn't give important information like how does DX observe those holidays? By shutting up shop and doing nothing during the holiday? By reducing support staff without affecting order processing? How do the holidays affect orders?

But why would new customers go looking for forum threads when it's really easy to put a dismissible banner on each product page?

    I miss my spell checker.

Yes but a sentense, even one ending with a link, looks incomplete without a full stop. A dot hanging a space away from where it should be is just as tsk tsk! it can be fixed though, I just forgot on this occasion. It is a simple matter of placing a space (which activates the link), click the un-link button, type the full stop, place the cursor back in front of it and backspace once. It only takes me 4~5 minutes and generally keeps the nit-pickers off my back.

The problem for me is that 7-15 business days is the total time it takes from order-creation to order-completion, as in: successful delivery.

I ordered on September 29, and it is now September 29, and the order has not changed status since September 29.

At this moment, the only reason why I am not canceling the order and requesting a refund is because I am afraid this will somehow throw a wrench into the inner workings of DealExtreme and grind the system to a halt, and that the refund will take weeks or months to take effect.

    :(

Rachel was very friendly, but I am really dispaoointed in my first DX experience. Until this morning I was thinking the delay was caused by holiday season and DX told me to be patient.. Now, after more than 2 weeks they tell me the items is sold out.

Let's hope the refund will indeed happen within 3 days.. If not, I would never order from DX again.
