LED lies, lumen lies

  • sheepish Top 10 Forum Poster Wednesday, October 11, 2017 12:55 PM Reply

    Emitter Brand    Cree

    LED Type    XM-L2

    Emitter BIN    T6

    Number of Emitters    2

    Color BIN    White

    Working Voltage    3.7V

    Power Supply    4*18650

    Current    3A

    Theoretical Lumens    2000 lumens

    Actual Lumens    2000 lumens

They are not Cree XM-L2. They are not Cree XM-L either. They are fake Cree LEDs, probably made by LatticeBright, a Chinese company which deliberately makes their LEDs so they look like the Cree XM-L. Then companies like ZHAOYAO lie about what LEDs they use, and companies like DX lie to their customers about what LEDs the customers are paying for.

Yes, DX knows these fake LEDs are used but still lies to its customers.

The fake Cree LEDs can produce far less than 1000 lm per LED. Even a genuine Cree XM-L in a T6 luminous flux bin is only rated for 911 lm at the XM-L's maximum 3 A spec. With a working voltage of 3.7 V these are apparently being run in parallel, so each will be getting 1.5 A, which with the smaller LED die of the fake Crees will still be pushing these LEDs very hard. The claimed output is probably at least three times what this headlamp can actually produce.

Yes, DX knows that the theoretical and actual lumen figures aren't genuine figures but still lies to its customers.

That also means this headlamp hasn't actually been tested. It's yet another lie in the specs. DX actually had its own integration sphere and used to actually test headlamps and torches. Sadly, it doesn't do that testing any more.

Yes, DX knows it hasn't tested them, but still lies to its customers.

DX, when will you stop lying to your customers? People will still buy the cheap Chinese LEDs even if you're honest about what they are: cheap, cold blue tinted, inefficient, short lived. But all many people care about is that they make light. For the people who do care, and care about being lied to, you can sell them genuine Cree LEDs that they know will be Cree LEDs and you can make more money doing it.

DX has found a new way to deceive customers:
Use reviews for different products that have not been bought
by the person who wrote the review.
