DX's sexual confusion

  • sheepish Top 10 Forum Poster Thursday, November 30, 2017 11:23 AM Reply

@ozOzo your pic wasn't good enough.

    1 Female to 5 2.1x5.5mm Dual Male

They're obviously not male, but why are they "dual"?

Photos were so much easier to post in the old forum. (And I typed that before the photo vanished. Stupid New Forum Interface!)

    PS. Also sku.463017

    PPS. Also sku.408477 and sku.408259
                                    and sku.408261

are extremely confused, having male to male in the title and female to female in the subtitle.

    PPPS. Also sku.442287

Oz, I thought you had all this sorted out. Are these all new since you, um, got on top of it?

I thought I had them up to date about 6 months ago sheepish so these may be relatively new but  there’s no way of our knowing nowadays is there, now that release dates are not published?

    Shall we try again…

Nothing surprises me on this site any more but one of the most irrational things about it surely, is the non-communication between staff members such as s/he who writes the original descriptions of new products and s/he who checks and corrects error reports. Don’t they like each other? Wouldn’t one think that, when an error recurs as often as this, year after year, one would have a whisper in the others’ pink ear?!

    Am I transu?

No, as it happens I am male, heterosexual, and only slightly homophobic… and quite comfortable with that.

Thank you for the Wikipedia link supporting my interpretation of the gender of coaxial DC connectors. It is one of several I have used on a hundred or more occasions over more than five years, in a vain attempt to convince DX staff that they have it wrong more often than not!… Even when I include the text below that photo Quote:

Common 5.5×2.5 mm coaxial power connectors. Power is provided by the female plug on the right to the male jack on the left; the exposed conductors are not hazardous due to the low voltage.

Did you seriously just get hit on, Oz?

I credit it to either simple disorganisation or Chinese culture. If the person listing the products is older than the person fixing errors, the error-fixer cannot tell the lister they are wrong, so nothing improves.

"the exposed conductors are not hazardous due to the low voltage."

Except that unless the male socket is really fancy it's actually possible to apply reverse voltage while inserting the female plug. It can be very hazardous to electronics, even "vent with flames".
