Does it work with external power supply?

  • lk0001 Wednesday, February 14, 2018 8:32 AM Reply

If yes, what power supply is needed? What voltage, current, socket size, etc...

No. Power is provided by connecting the cable to a USB 3.0 outlet on your computer.

But why it has the DC socket near USB socket?

And this socket is marked as "DC IN". What is it? Just a small useless hole, isn't it?

Have you already bought it? It's presently sold out.

DX has found a new way to deceive customers:
Use reviews for different products that have not been bought

Yes, I've bought it, and awaiting for delivery.

The question still persists. What is the small hole marked as "DC IN"?

What voltage, current, socket size, etc...

Soon I'll need a DC cable for this hub, and I wanna buy it in advance.

Buying a lot of DX items seems to be random. (And I had the thought that "cat in a poke" could a reference to plugging in Ethernet cables.)

Yes, the DC coax jack is (probably) 5.5mm x 2.5mm and is (probably) there to provide supplementary power if required via a 5V power adapter similar to SKU: 313110. Whether 2.0 Amps is sufficient depends on what you intend to plug into the hub.

The only 5V – 3A ones I can find on DX now don’t have a coax connector, only micro-USB and the only 5V – 4Amp (with coax connector) they show is getting a little expensive- SKU: 458603. There is more learned advice than mine available if @sheepish or @matrix-neo are willing and available.

Absence of basic vital information has unfortunately become increasingly the norm on DX and whereas we used to be able to ask staff for more information on the Report Error -> Lacking Info link, that department seems to have closed down. The only reply we get now is from a cut and paste bot: -  We received your report. For your problem please contact our CSE team. They will help you to solve out the problem professionally.

They call it “your problem” even when we are trying to help them out with THEIR problems.

The "buying a cat in a poke" is a proverb meaning "purchasing of unknown goods".

A lot of goods on DX are not described enough. Even necessary information is absent or wrong. I'm tired of it.

I'm 45 y.o. russian engineer, and I want to see more technical information, but it's absent. And nobody can answer my technical questions. People becomes stupid, everyone wants to consume, and noone wants to think. The further the worse. The global idiocy is spreading everywhere...
OK, what is about USB hub that's being discussed? It looks very similar to this:
I think to buy DC cable of sku.474703, may be I'll be lucky. That cable is not described enough, length is unknown, heh. Yet another cat in a poke.

Several forum regulars including myself have been telling DX the same thing for a while. vv

If you want to tell a staff member here, just put an @ symbol in front of Maye_Tao's name.

Like this > @ Maye_Tao but without the space between the @ and the M. It must be spelled exactly like my example.

Maybe if more people complain, DX will do something about it.

Lol, "buying a pig in a poke" is a very old saying in the English language... with the exact same meaning you described. I wonder which came first, the Russian cat or the English pig?

$3 is not too much to waste on 2 pigs or cats I guess, but I’m curious as to what you plan to use sku.474703 for. The 3.5 x 1.35mm coaxial connector seems unlikely to fit the jack in the hub as most hubs I have seen (that DO mention the size), are 5.5 x 2.5. And where does the other end go?... unless you have found a suitable power adaptor with a female USB interface.
