End cap size? Does the switch go through the body?

  • pruittjim Tuesday, March 13, 2018 5:33 AM Reply

Looking at picking up one of these to mod. I've got two questions:

    1) Are the end cap threads the same size as the head? Does the end cap mate with the head threads, if you remove the body tube?

    2) Does the switch present a "penetration" in the light? Is it a mechanical switch that has a component that passes through the light head to operate a switch on the circuit, or is it a magnetic switch with no penetration of the flashlight?

    Thanks!

1 - Nope, end cap is bigger.

2- Its a magnetic switch, its not visible if you take the body off.

FYI, its a nice light though.

Bummer about the end cap. That would have been much too easy. Thanks for the info, though. Looks like an awesome light, so I'll probably pick one up anyways, and worst case scenario, use it as it was meant to be used.

If you don't mind my asking, were you hoping to screw the tailcap (with a hole drilled through it) directly on the head in order to use a separate battery pack?

I'm asking because someone asked the same question on another site's forum about 2 years ago for a similar light. I replied almost word for word like cyclist about my Ultrafire "Diving" light which is very similar to this one.

Yes, that was the intention, to use the tail cap to seal the light head, and then run a cord to a separate 2s2p 18650 battery pack in a waterproof canister. I was considering replacing the driver with a higher current output one as well, since battery life would be less of an issue with a larger battery pack.

It wasn't me that asked the question two years ago. Was there any useful discussion that followed?

Nope, sorry. Nothing useful came of it.

The only thing I can suggest is asking on one of the flashlight forums like BLF. (budgetlightforum) You'd have to join up to ask though.
