    the box says 4 x 65 watts, which I very much doubt it could ever achieve. These figures are peak output power with total distortion

    Every car stereo has 4x18W RMS (or less) output power. This is beacause the supply voltage is 12V and there is no space for additional voltage inverter. Car amplifiers have higher output power, because there is built-in voltage inverter, which makes higher supply voltage from 12V.

    The box can say whatever, but actual output power of car stereos are no more than 4x18W due to battery voltage of 12V. More power can be acheived only with external amplifier.
