Vag tacho working!!! on windows 7!!!!

  • alexver Saturday, January 16, 2010 11:13 PM Reply
(I´m sorry about my poor english)
That's right, I'm running the vag-tacho in Windows 7, I tried it today and 2 keys programmed. The procedure is:
You need to download the drivers from
    http://www.ftdichip.com/Drivers/CDM/CDM%202.06.00%20WHQL%20Certified.zip
you must unzip the downloaded file (CDM 2.06.00 WHQL Certified.zip) on the desktop. Check that there appeared a folder named "CDM 2.06.00 WHQL Certified" on the desktop.
Then connect "Vag-Tacho" to an available USB port, Windows 7 will not find the drivers, then the driver search dialog will close, therefore you must go to control panel, device manager and you'll see that there is a device that has not been installed correctly and this will appear as "USB<->ISO" or something. Click the right mouse button on the device "USB<->ISO" and go to properties. Click on" update driver "and then" search driver on the computer. "Then click on" Select from a list of drivers on the team. "Then you must click on" Have Disk "or something.
Then click on "choose", "seek" or something and you must choose the previously unzipped folder and choose the file "ftdibus.inf" or "ftdibus. Click on "open" then click "OK". Then click on "USB serial converter" (without letters) and press "next". A new window appears with title "Update Driver Warning" and say "Windows does not recommend installing this driver because ... blah blah blah" then you press on "Yes". Driver will be installed ... check your control panel and see that a new device named "USB serial converter (if you can not find. does not matter)
The next task is to download VAG-TACHO 2.5 of the following link:
    http://www.hotshare.net/file/213709-2452443799.html

Unzip to your desktop. This will create a folder named "vag-tacho 2.5". Enter into that folder and run (double click) "vagtacho" (a file with a key icon) ... voila! detected! .. and you can use your vag-tacho. Only you know what "ECU" use your car.
I leave you the link of the manual:

    saludos a todos! from CHILE.

Hola alexver! Well I have the same problem, I can't use VAG TACHO on my Windows 7 & I tried your link to get the missing drivers but the page is no longer available. I have been looking for the drivers like crazy but nothing, I was wondering, do you still have the drivers needed saved on your computer? If so, is there any way that you could send me those files or a working link to where I can find them. Thanks for all the info & I'm sorry to bother you, is just that I'm running out of options by now. Hope to hear from you soon!

    Saludos

    Alexver:

Thanks for the explination on using the VAG TACHO Cable with windows 7. However, I am not able to install the Driver for the cable. I would appreciate any input to help resolve this.

    I did the following:
    1. Downloaded CDM 2.06.00 WHQL Certified.zip and unzipped to the folder named "CDM 2.06.00 WHQL Certified" on the desktop.
    2. Connected "Vag-Tacho" to an available USB port, Windows 7 did not find the drivers.
    3. Opened control panel, device manager and opened "USB<->ISO" and selected UPDATE Drivers.
    4. Searched for driver on the computer amd went to the Unzipped CDM 2.06.00 WHQL Certified folder on the desktop.
    5. HERE is where the trouble starts: In the folder I can see (with a windows explorer) that there is the "ftdibus.inf" file, but when updating I cannot see it nor select it.
    6. So I select Include Subfolders and press "next".
    7. I get the message "windows was unable to install..., windows was unable to install"

    Please Help,

I haven't received my cable yet, but it looks like they updated the driver which is why the link is not working.

Ok well I did exactally what Alexver told us. Here is what I did and it works.
    1. http://www.ftdichip.com/Drivers/D2XX.htm scroll down until you get to the
Currently Supported D2XX Drivers: click in the box to the far right 2.08.14 WHQL Certified Available as setup executable Release Notes
    click on setup executable.

    2. You MUST unzip the downloaded file (CDM 2.06.00 WHQL Certified.zip) on the desktop. Check there should be a folder named "CDM 2.06.00 WHQL Certified" on the desktop.
    3. Then connect "Vag-Tacho" to an available USB port, Windows 7 will not find the drivers, therefore you must go to control panel, device manager there you will see a device that has not been installed correctly, "USBISO"
    4. Click the right mouse button on the device "USBISO" and go to properties.
    5. Click on" update driver "and then" search driver on the computer (the bottom or second choice). (not auto look)
    6. "Then click on" Select manually from a list of drivers. You aren't going to find a driver therefore click on" Have Disk ".
7.Then click on "browse", you must choose the previously unzipped folder and choose the file "ftdibus.inf" or "ftdibus.
    8. Click on "open" then click "OK".
    9. Then click on "USB serial converter" (without letters) and press "next".
    10. A new window appears with title "Update Driver Warning" and say "Windows does not recommend installing this driver because ... blah blah blah" then you press on "Yes". Driver will be installed ... check your control panel and see that a new device named "USB serial converter (if you can not find. does not matter) This is copied from Alexver with added help it really works.

The next task is to download VAG-TACHO 2.5 of the following link:
    http://www.hotshare.net/file/213709-2452443799.html
** When you download this file VAG-TACHO 2.5.rar you will need to unzip it on the desktop. Once you unzip the rar file with winzip or zip7 you will be able to run the VAH-TACHO 2.5. Just as Alexver said
    Good luck.
