Surprise Bags

  • Green65 Tuesday, March 30, 2010 12:49 PM Reply
I think a bag of random skus would be good.

They could have values like $5 or $10 and you would get a bag of random things that would be equivalent or more of that value.

I think they would be a good bit of fun!

Considering the low profits per item at DX, that wouldn't be any better than just ordering random stuff, plus you would probably be getting a lot of plastic hygiene junk and spare parts for game systems you don't own.

building on the idea of a gamble, why not have an sku that you buy and you will get random store credits? For example, each item is $10 but you can get "delivered" $1, $50 or $100 to your account.

DX has already problems enough dealing with all the tickets and orders.
These things only bring more work for the employees, thus longer ticket handling and ordershipment.

@nande, that sounds a LOT like gambling dude!
personally i don't think it's a hot idea for the above reasons, but also think about this-how are you going to review random grab bags? random items means the review and photos change from one bag to another so reviews/photos/videos mean zip!

It's an interesting idea but, typically, these things are only done for one reason: to clear inventory because having inventory sit there costs money and becomes a money losing proposition after a while. That's why it works for the merchant - if stuff doesn't sell, you need to get rid of it, even if it's at a loss. And it may work for the customer because there's always the idea that you might get something valuable for way less than you'd usually pay.

But DX doesn't really keep a large inventory around. That's a fundamental part of their business model. That's why it sometimes takes forever until orders ship. So there really shouldn't ever be a need to get rid of a large quantity of random stuff. And even stuff that they do actually seem to keep in stock (like sku.8922) appears to sell fine on its own if you lower the price a bit.
