re. 5 hole blade tension screw (not torx, hex, etc.)

  • cantstopshopper Tuesday, June 15, 2010 12:24 AM Reply
Does anyone know where to get a purpose made screwdriver for the
all too common five-holed pivot/tension screw on so many of the knives?

I have all the hex and torx screwdrivers I need, but I want the right tool for this other kind.

    Is this available here? anywhere?

    What do YOU use instead?

I have been looking for this tool as well. I believe Schrade (now owned by Taylor Brands LLC) used these on some of their knives. As far as I can tell they were fitted by a special tool with five sprung ball bearing which fitted into the five dimples. The spring tension on these effectively set the tightening torque for the pivot screw. Presumably these machines are still around - if only in use by the replica makers.

I have yet to find a hand tool for tightening these, but I'll post on this forum if I do.

If you're talking about tension screws like the one on sku.32577, most people just use very fine tip tweezers.

    Another good suggestion, thanks

for my knives I have a pair of hardened steel roundnose pliers- the type used for wirework

    - Still, if anyone does come across a tool designed for this specific screw... you know what to do.
