This cannot be Cat6

  • Trumm Friday, November 26, 2010 2:00 PM Reply
Cat6 means it can handle high speeds due the twisted pair wires inside, this is too thin for twisted pairs

Cat5 had less twists then Cat6 each length
If my answer was helpfull you can always donate me some points :)

When I first saw this, I also doubted it. But looking closer, it does look like there are twisted pairs arranged inside the "flat" cable, somewhat similar to how a "flat" LVD SCSI cable is constructed.
What's up with the scrubbed LED driver IC markings?
What are they trying to hide?

Flat CAT6 1000baseT cables has been available for a few years already in Japan. Check out harmonet.co.jp No idea if these will do 1000 though..

CAT5/6 have twisted pairs to reduce interference and attenuation, but electrically the concept still works with straight wires, it is just very susceptible to outside interference.

At 1 meter, it isn't going to matter much. It would only become a problem at longer distances, which is why these straight cables are only available up to a few meters in length.

They also have this product in 30 meter length sku.29344 and it is reported to work well.
From the pictures it looks similar to SATA cable.
Sata cable is also flat, very thin twisted pair and can handle 6Gbit/s at 1m length (eSata 2m). http://w3.haztek-software.com/bl3nd/posts/21

Normal cat5/6 contains a lot of airspace inside the sleaving. If you would tape or mould the 4 twisted pairs next to each other, then you do get a flat cable.
