Don't talk to me about chickens. I found out the hard way a couple of months ago that about 1% of chickens go through a sex change and start crowing. (By "the hard way" I mean the crowing at some unearthly hour of the morning.)

And when the sex-change chickens start crowing they stop laying eggs, so it's doubly annoying.

roosters are boys.... no eggs. [i know you know that, i'm just tryin' to be humorous] :)

    but they can be fried.

roosters in the hen house will give you some "live" eggs. a real nasty surprise when you crack one open into the fryin' pan. but most people candle them first to avoid that.

If you're collecting the eggs regularly the chickens won't sit on them* so the eggs won't start developing, so no chicks in the frying pan.

    * The dumb clucks are bright enough to count there's not enough yet to be sat on but not bright enough to realise they keep vanishing.

No crowing here, but plenty of eggs! In 1 week, we got 2 dozen, from 4 chickens!

On original topic the final watch arrived from the competitior on Monday.

    Bok bok bok. :)

Oh NO! "If 4 chickens make 24 eggs in 1 week, how many eggs will you get ..." Aarrrgh!

Seriously though, that's not a bad laying rate.
