Involvement:Expert (understands the inner workings) - Ownership:1 day to 1 week

    Pros:

As cheap as they can be.
    Very bright.
    All of them work!

    Cons:

    None really.

    OtherThoughts:

I have burned one "accidentally" by direct driving it from a Li-Ion battery.

It was 3.7V and current was 110mA, it burned in like 5 - 10 seconds; so don't do it :)

    Bottomline:

Build nice constant current circuit for them (or just use resistor if you are cheap and/or like simple solutions) and they won't fail you. I think you should drive them @ 20mA for safe operations without burning them out (didn't try yet, but i think it would be something like 3.4V for that purpose).

IF you are willing to risk of killing them, use max 40mA, no more!:)
