Involvement:Novice (still getting used to it) - Ownership:1 day to 1 week
+ Produce quite a bit of sparks on a single stroke
+ The blade is tied with the thick string to the rod; so it is always ready to be used
+ It is small and easy to store
- Produce some fine residues after striking the rod but this doesn't really matters
- The cord is a bit short
During my first few tries it doesn't produce any sparks. Until the top layer wears off and it starts to work well. I didn't have a safe area to actually start a fire, but based on others' comments it should work.
This is a must-have as a survival tool. Though I probably won't need it, I bought one just in case disasters going to come one day. Looking at the number of natural calamities around the world today, it is better to be prepared. Not to say that year 2012 is very close now.
