    Pros:

    Nice unit with lots of features. I had a previous version, but this one is even better. You can link it to the PC, suitable free software can be found here:

    <http://www.logview.info/cms/index.php?d_logview_info>. The temperature input is the serial data out, but you must invert the signal before you bring it to pin 2 of the serial connector of your PC. Ground is the one furthest from the DC in, bring it to pin 5 of the serial. The pin closest to the DC input is +5V, useful to power the signal inverter with. Seems to work nicely that way.

    Cons:

    The power transistors are not properly mounted to the case. This can be solved by screwing them to the back plate, but it seems you must use insulating mica washers. The paint acts as isolator in the stock unit ;-). Surely the transistors would have burned in my unit, given how hot the case gets with properly mounted ones.

    The beeper is much too loud. (same as older versions of this charger). You must quieten it by putting glue in the speaker or you will go crazy.

    This charger sometimes needs a mighty inrush current when you hook it up. Good quality lab power supplies can detect this and go into constant current mode, preventing a successful start. Put a capacitor parallel or put a battery on the output and it will work.

    Voltage accuracy was not fantastic (approx 1%). You can tweak the voltage divider resistors (under the display).

    Bottomline:

    You can put M3 studs to mount the bottom plate instead of the screws, they will keep distance to the table (for better cooling).

    You can also replace the stock power input jack with two 4mm sockets, now you are glad there are two holes side by side ;-)

    The input appears protected against reverse polarity (mine survived anyway).
