  • works pretty well

Involvement:Expert (understands the inner workings) - Ownership:more than 1 month

Adjusts the voltage from approx. 5 to 11.5 volts (measured it with my $5 multimeter) with a turn of the potentiometer - more then enough range to adjust computer fans. There's no noise from whining coils/capacitors, and the cables are long enough to reach through a whole midtower case.

Uses a linear regulator, so it's not very efficient at low voltages. A switching regulator would've been a better solution, but more expensive.
It would've also been nice if it came with a frontplate to put it in a spare 5,25'' slot, to adjust a fan you need to reach all the way behind your computer.
There's also no way of connecting this fan controller to your motherboard so you can see the fan speeds in windows, the only way to know if your fan is spinning very low or is off is to open your PC case and feel it.

If you need a simple solution to slow down your fans, this might be it - just be aware that there's no feedback at all whether the fans are spinning or not.
