  • Good RTC and EEPROM board

Involvement:Expert (understands the inner workings) - Ownership:more than 1 month

    Pros:

This board combines the known DS1307 RTC chip and a 32k EEPROM and due to the fact the cattery is mounted at the bottom, it has a very small footprint.
It has holes for connectors at both sides, so another IIC board/chip can be looped through.

Uther than the SDA,SCL, Vcc and Ground connections, it also breaks out the SQW pin of the clock and it has a loop through for the DS18B20 temperature chip.
Wether this is off any use is up to the user. The Board simply adds a 3.3k pull up to the DS18B20 line. There is room to solder a DS18B20 on the board. Only the signal line is indicated but the hole closest to the edge is where the ground goes.
The battery line is also broken out, but the use of that will be limited.

    Cons:

Not really, although one will need to solder the connectors oneself. That can be seen as a pro as it allows to make a choice for male, female, or 90degrees connectors

    OtherThoughts:

The Address of the DS1307 is 0x68 and not configurable. Though the EEPROMchip is configurable, on the board all its address lines are grounded making the address 1010000 = 0x50

    The pull-up resistors are 3k3

    Bottomline:

a fairly cheap RTC/EEPROM board. Cant go wrong on this one. with a DS18B20 added it becomes a fairly compact temperature logger.
