  • Fantastic budget light

    posted by crazyguy248 on 07/16/2013

Involvement:Expert (understands the inner workings) - Ownership:1 week to 1 month

-Deep smooth reflector offers excellent throw for the size
    -Useable spill and bright hotspot
-XP-G R5 moderately driven offers good brightness and very good battery life
-Build Quality is very good for a cheap dx light, nice smooth threads, anodize quality is good.
-Great thermal design, led screws into host, the host itself has good heatsinking
-Compact size, about the size of p60 host, but with much better heatsinking
    -can tailstand
-Great price for what you get

-xp-g could be driven higher (~1.5 amps)
-pwm flicker is present at low mode, but not terrible
-would prefer a glass lens, the plastic lens has slight scratches
    -missing some o-rings

Plan on upgrading the driver to a h-m-l 7135 driver at ~1.5A. Will accept 16mm driver circuit. The thermal design will certainly allow for this if not more current. Might try a xp-g2 or xml in the future.

Fantastic light for the price, worth it for the excellent thermal design alone.
