Windows 7 doesn't auto-install it, but it has a valid, signed driver for XP, 7, 9 and Linux. Newer Linux kernel releases has open-source support for it. The speed in the end never goes beyond 25 or 30 megabytes per second. Measured that copying a file via windows networking, using the onboard gigabit ethernet cardinstead of the usb I could get 95 megabytes per second instead. It feels a lot like a USB 2.0 gigabit ethernet. If you plan on having a faster ethernet for an old USB-2.0 computer it might do just fine. It's a nice USB ethernet adapter if 30mb/s transfer rates don't bother you.

Compact, easily carriable

Didn't work on company network (Please read "Other Thoughts" before considering this as a reason for not buying the device.) On my ASUS N56VZ, on board Qualcomm Atheros AR8161 gave 940Mbps on PassMark PerformaceTest 8.0's Advanced Network Test, UNITEK Y-3461 only gave 360Mbps The website is good. No messing with foreign languages and had drivers even for Windows 8.1 (which is only 21 days old at the time of the review). Worked good on my home network, but went crazy on the company network. (I configured and wired both networks and both are gigabit.) I kept hearing Windows' USB plug in and plug out sounds when I plugged it in. I'm not sure if this should be a con because the problem only happened at work. My on board card works perfectly there but maybe my computer was just acting weird. A good device. If your on board NIC is broken or you want a second NIC for geekiness, you can buy this. It does not provide the full gigabit speed, but still better than 100 megabit. The price isn't that bad either.
