Nice little gimmick that responds to UV radiation. Put it in UV light, the beads change colour. Remove it from UV light, the beads turn white. Useful for - testing sunglasses - testing suncream - warning for UV light - Nice gift
Cons: Does not give a strong indication of the strength of the UV light. It'd be nice if blue meant 'there is UV but it's OK and red was 'danger'. It's not like that. Is not indicative to different sorts of UV light. It's probably sensitive to UVA, UVB and UVC.
It does change colour behind glass which blocks most UVB and UVC but allows UVA in.
Nice gimmick, nice as a gift, it feels somewhat magical to see it change colour like that.
