Those plastic stones do really turn colored when exposed to UV light, such as the Sun (even in cloudy days), and back to transparent when indoors, exposed to standard lighting. They take just 10 seconds to fully respond to UV and 2 minutes to go back without it. Fun and cute! It's even cheaper than other standard phone stripes sold in the streets.
The silicon wire that holds it together is thin and could be broken if the strip is abused, but you can always replace it by generic sewing thread in case this happens...
Has been useful and accurate for evaluating UV filter in sunglasses. Just carefully put the glasses above this strip, protecting it from the Sun, and wait 3 minutes. Then, take the strip off from behind the glasses and check if they turn from transparent to colorful. If they do, sunglasses are good. If they come from underneath the glasses already colorful, the glasses don't have UV protection.
