  • It is not USB to RS232 adapter

It is cheap and could be used to some electronic hobby project. Can be connected directly to 5V logic and also to 3.3V logic but additional changes are probably required to protect target circuit.

In accordance with the title this is not true USB to RS232 adapter, as the outputs voltage levels does not meet the criteria for RS232. These voltage levels should be ideally +12V/-12V or at least +3V/-3V for practical use. Still some devices can communicate.

It is based on PL2303 converter by Prolific Technology Inc. Inside, there is just the black bubble (the PL2303 chip directly on PCB) and a few more components. The TTL to RS232 converter is missing - the PL2303 chip is connected to the connector without level conversion.

Ideal if you are looking for an USB to serial connection for your microcontroler project.
