  • Good converter, crappy cable

Involvement:General (knows how to use it) - Ownership:more than 1 month

    Pros:

A very affordable way to add a serial port to a USB-only computer. Converter itself is well-built and seems sturdy.

    Cons:

No indication as to what the controller is inside. This is important for many USB-to-serial applications.

Extension cable is really bad quality, doesn't match the good build quality of the converter itself.

Software comes on a small CD, which is bad since many computers cannot take it nowadays. No website to load updated software??

    OtherThoughts:

No place to screw serial plugs. Not really a con since torque on these plugs is usually low enough it won't come loose by itself.

    Bottomline:

If you need a converter to serial, this is one good purchase. Will work in Linux. Not sure about Mac.
