  • Serial port from a USB

Involvement:Expert (understands the inner workings) - Ownership:1 day to 1 week

    Pros:

Worked the first time I plugged it in, didn't even need the CD for drivers. Tested all the way up to 9600 baud with a serial console, no issues.

    Cons:

Side screws are near enough to useless, I pulled them off and threw them out. Friction against the pins is just fine unless you're using it to support your weight.
The USB extension cable included is about as low-grade as they come, but who cares? It's the adapter you want. I tossed mine into the pile of assorted bits I keep handy.

    OtherThoughts:

Keeping this one in my laptop bag. Shame they don't include Serial ports on new computers anymore.

    Bottomline:

Need a serial port? Got a USB port open? Click "buy this".
