  • Good buck driver

    Involvement:General (knows how to use it) - Ownership:1 day to 1 week

    Pros:

    It is a good buck driver. Whenever you want to drive one LED with two or more cells (or some other voltage source up to 18V) and no modes, this one is for you. Efficiency is ~80%;
    Drives the LED at 1.2A.
    Might even drive multiple LEDs in series (I tried that, but not thoroughly).

    Cons:

    Not a boost driver. Input voltage should be ~0.7V higher than LED voltage, or the current goes down significantly. So it's not suited for single cell operation.
    Gets warm a bit (not hot).
    1.2A is a bit too much for XP-E and XR-E LEDs.

    OtherThoughts:

    The driving current can be changed by exchanging the sense resistor at the LED- wire (it's 0.20 Ohm; a higher resistance will result in a lower current).

    Bottomline:

    Nice buck driver. I'll get some more.
