  • Little surprising device

    posted by jmpaiva on 01/18/2010

Involvement:Expert (understands the inner workings) - Ownership:1 day to 1 week

    - Very Small device
    - Has no fans nor an internal HDD so it's completly silent
    - Interesting set of features
    - Can be firmware upgraded (I recommend)
    - Appears to have a very good build quality

    - Processor is not the fastest out there
    - Rather slow with NTFS drives

Pretty good small device, reads eveything you plug in the USB ports, has an ftp, samba, UPnP and torrent (all tested and working) and a print server (didn't test it as I no longer have a printer at home).
What's between it and perfection is the 250MHz processor wich tends to make transfers a bit slow: I have a 1TB NTFS hard-drive and it was writing at 500KB/s which is slow. Tested with another one EXT3 formatted and the results although not brilliant, did improve a lot.
Not that the original firmware is bad but you I recommend upgrading it's firmware (read the forum), you get a nicer interface, a webserver and a much better torrent client (You can manage your torrents remotly). This comes with a cost, you loose the UPnP server (irrelevant to me)

Good device to use as a torrent client and as a server to distribute your digital contents to all the computers in your house
