Involvement:Expert (understands the inner workings) - Ownership:1 day to 1 week
Pros:
Pretty good deal for the price, sound quality is "OK" as long as you don't crank it. Makes a nice little player for your workbench/desk/cubicle/kitchen etc. It actually looks pretty nice, the woodgrain while being fake is very convincing.
Cons:
- Volume defaults to maximum when turned on - No volume buttons on unit only on remote - No shuffle function - Speakers distort at high volume - No power adapter, just USB cable with jack - Not supposed to play while charging - No radio function
OtherThoughts:
Its not a bad little unit but I think there is room for improvement. Would benefit from having a radio feature especially when the IC's for these are so cheap. Haven't had a chance to fully drain the battery yet but I'll post a comment if/when I do.
Bottomline:
Neat little unit that's fairly inexpensive (at least in a Canadian Market) and is fairly flexible in that it reads from SD or USB. I may gut the device and use the circuitry to make a nicer mini stereo.
Not too shabby for the price, some flaws though
