Involvement:Expert (understands the inner workings) - Ownership:more than 1 month
It's leaps and bounds over a wet sponge. Less thermal shock means that the soldering tip doesn't cool down as much, and it lasts longer. There's also no cleanup involved. It's great. It's also got rubber feet, so it won't slide around your work bench.
Fine solder particles can accumulate inside - not fine enough to be a breathing hazard, especially since it's trapped under a bunch of brass shavings, but still concerning.
It's so much more convenient than a wet sponge. If you solder more than once a year, you have to get this thing.
