  • Stylish flashlight for a woman who don't avoid soldering

    Involvement:Expert (understands the inner workings) - Ownership:more than 1 month

    Pros:

    Low price, compact size - perfect for EDC.
    XR-E Q5 emitter is still a good choice.
    Stylish red look, it can be a perfect gift for a woman.
    Step-down driver.

    Cons:

    Only one mode. Only one high-current (1A) mode. Only one high-current (1A) mode in such a small compact pocket flashlight powered with just one 16340 battery! Good only for those who just want to warm his hands. Not usable in close range indoors as it is VERY bright! So I had to fix it.

    OtherThoughts:

    I have disassembled it and found that driver is a buck converter, based on unknown chip (CFB0J). It looks similar to sku.128274.
    I don't like that it lights very brightly and get me blind when used indoor in close range. So I decide to fix it. I've replace sensing resistors: were R27+R2 in parallel, I've replaced with 10R. But I haven't chip resistors so I solder one with leads! It's still looks nice, I think! :) (see photos I've upload). So, I've done some experiments till I ended with 10R variant:
    R2+R27 (default) - 1A @ 4.05V
    R2 - 0.78A @ 4.04V; 0.62A @ 3.5V
    R27 - 0.76A @ 4.02V; 0.42A @ 3.5V
    1R - 0.55A @ 4.02V; 0.28A @ 3.5V
    10R - 0.15A @ 4V; 0.09A @ 3.5V
    With 10R light output is similar to mid-mode sku.26497, which is perfect for me.
    Measured current drained from battery not LED current!

    Bottomline:

    After 2 years of using it is still good flashlight but it needs some work on it to get it lighting the way you need. But as almost every other flashlight this one has spacing between brass pill and flashlight body (pill outer dia. is 15mm while bezel inner dia. is 16mm). So you should work on it again. :)
