- 4 modes of brightness with memory of modes
- the convenient and reliable button - the driver on average modes a little peeps but it is audible only in a complete silence - i consider that this lantern is very good! many modes of brightness are very useful for different situations at use
- i estimate brightness in percentage as 100-70-25-5 on different modes
- very wide flare, light of a warm shade, pleasant
- the lantern is heated only in the brightest mode, but in my opinion the overheat isn't present
- an operating time in the brightest mode about 60 minutes from element Eneloop 2000mah,
on the second on brightness a mode - about 90 minutes, modes of low brightness on time didn't measure, it is assured, that will long work
- i would advise to use accumulators of good marks and LSD - it is very happy with a lantern and confidently i recommend to all!

The clip extends over the end of the tail cap preventing a true tail stand. You can fudge it by setting it on the edge of a table so that the clip hangs over the edge. It will basically stand upright on a flat surface (a little crooked and wobbly) even with the clip protrusion. Tons of light from a AA cell. The beam is very floody, so this will not throw very far. Great for indoor use. I think it's more splash proof than water proof, the clicky rattles and a little air leaks through on a "blow test". Great emitter but the execution is a little wonky. At 12 dollars I would buy 10, at 20...i will just keep the one I have. I might remove the clip and drill some holes for a lanyard.

4-mode operation works perfectly. Very bright in high mode. Low mode is very, very low-- this is something that most flashlight connoisseurs look for. PWM frequency is super-high so there's no annoying flickering, even in the lower modes. Nice OP reflector and glass lens. I received a defective tailcap. It was machined 2mm shorter than specs. Because of this, the pocket clip protrudes beyond the end of the tailcap and therefore the light cannot tailstand. I posted pics of this in the forum.
Finish is OK but not great. You can see many imperfections in the knurling. Orange peel texture is visible on the painted pocket clip. It would have been nice with a stainless steel pocket clip.
This light is expensive for DX! Although there is no flickering on lower modes you can still hear the PWM working. This is not really a con in my book but it may annoy some people.
The LED was slightly off-center but it's not noticeable in the beam thanks to the reflector's OP surface. If tailstanding is important to you, I wouldn't buy this light until the current manufacturing problem is resolved. Overall, this is not a bad light for $20 but I think $10-$15 would be more reasonable for what you get.

This was a bit of a gamble since people got the shitty 3-mode useless one.
It works perfectly on all modes.
Leave the battery out and it weight almost nothing in your hand.
The weight of the battery is ~90% of your total weight
Clip is a very nice addon.
They seem to have fixed the negative pcb -> tube connection problem by adding a "golden" shim of some sort to get the best connection possible.
I have turned the light on/off a lot of times.
Cannot say yet if the clicky is rubbish.
Cannot see any noticeable dimming of the light between clicks. Clicky rattles...
Yes the drama of a rattling clicky...
Not much more to say.
I can operate (thumb press) the clicky, but finger operation 'feels' better.
I have bigger then average 'construction worker' hands (not fat paws). Pleasantly surprised by the output!
Even more happy that i got the REAL 4 mode light.
This one outshines possible every AA light DX has at the moment.
If DX has a stable stock of the real 4-mode light then i can recommend it to anyone who wants a AA only light.
This one can't be beat by any other AA only light currently sold here.
Time will tell if the clicky holds and no other defects creep up.
But from what i read and what i hold in my hand, they fixed a couple of problems the earlier batch had.
I will call this one a winner!

Using fresh NiMH accumulator Powerex Imedion 2400 I have received a light stream in Hi-Mode not worse Fenix HP10 in Turbo-mode (225lm).
Brightness slowly decreases at work.
I measured a current from the accumulator in a small lamp operating time:
Start 3.5?
1 minutes 3 7.5 minutes 2.8?
25 minutes 2.5?
41 minutes 2.4?
59 minutes Sharp brightness falling. (The accumulator was discharged).
I also have measured consumption currents in different modes. Mode 1 (Low) 0.3 A
Mode 2 0.8 A Mode 3 1.8 A
Mode 4 (Hi) 3.5 A
Using not the new accumulator (2 years after purchase)), I measured in modes 2-4 current in 1.5 times less. It is the best Flashlight on 1x AA to the battery.

Ok this is the Pros about the light, it really has some nice attributes about it but be sure and read my entire review before making a decision on this one! I would also like to note I did not receive the 4 mode light without strobe as advertised. Me and everyone else I know got the stupid 3 mode light with the High, Higher and slow flashing modes. The light really is a nice and practical design for EDC. The machining and finish on my sample was top notch! Threads nice, smooth and lightly lubed. The light has very nice and pretty much perfect knurling for a EDC light. The light output is very good. It is BRIGHT! The beam is smooth and somewhat floody so it really isn't a pocket thrower but it is quite nice and really lights things up outdoors at 20 meters really really nicely. The beam tint and color are great on my sample and very smooth and pleasing to the eye. The light also has a very nice and sturdy pocket clip although it is not reversible so it can not be clipped to something like a hat and used like a headlamp. The clip is removable if you choose to do so but will scratch the finish during removal. The light will also tailstand for use as a candle. Ok now for the kick in the teeth! I am really disappointed in this light!! First off no one I know received the correct 4 mode light! If I had got the 4 mode light I might not have quite so many complaints. There are 2 useless modes on this light since the high and higher settings are placed to close together and the slow flash mode is just stupid so you get pretty much a really bright single mode light! The mode switching requires multiple trys to get it to switch modes and after you turn it off and back on you can never tell if it is going to remember the last mode used or switch modes. It is all erratic and unpredictable! The best way I have found to use the light is be sure I am in high when I turn it off that way if it switches modes it won't be the flashing one. The tail switch assembly was oxidized and needed cleaned between the spring plate and switch contact which I have come to expect from budget lights so no real big problem there. In the switch assembly there are 2 concave brass washers that have to be installed correctly to push the switch into the threaded brass holder when the assembly is screwed into the tailcap and on my light the washers were upside-down. The metal on/off button on mine would also rattle, which drove me nuts, but was quickly fixed by cutting a 7mm X 7mm cube of foam from the box insert that held the light and stuffing it into the hollow of the metal actuator button. I believe the clicky is also somewhat under rated for the current this light draws as well. On my light the head had to be screwed on really tight to get it to work and when I looked to see the problem I discovered the driver/pill is glued into the head making repairs difficult. Mine was repaired by making a ring of copper wire and placing inside the head so the top of the light body would contact the outside ring on the driver board. I also noticed the O-Ring on the lens is on the wrong side. It is not on the outside of the lens but it is between the lens and reflector????? If the light had two O-Rings, one on the outside of the lens and one on the inside of the lens the contact issue of the driver board making contact with the top of the body tube would be solved as well! I really was disappointed in the three mode version of the light I got. I never would have bought this light in the 3 mode configuration as it is offered. It's not that having a 3 mode light is "bad" because I have the Trustfire F23 which I love! The F23 has a good usable low and a nice and fast strobe. If the EastwardYJ J09 3-mode version had a real low, fast strobe and a working memory or at least no memory it would be a great light!! If I had got the 4-mode like advertised in the first place this would be an entirely different discussion though! As it stands DX is shipping the 3 mode to everyone I know that ordered even though it is advertised as the 4 mode. I don't think it is DX's fault with the mixup though because my box has the correct SKU. This is probably the brightest light offered by DX for a single cell Ni-Mh battery. Did I say this light is bright! I have to say this is one nice host and is a very practical and functional design and I like the concept alot but as it is the User Interface sucks on the 3 mode and has some minor issues with assembly of the light. Maybe the UI on the 4 mode will be better once this mixup is all sorted out! As it stands I would not buy this light untill I know it is offered in the 4 mode and the UI wasn't unpredictable like the 3 mode. If I knew I would get the 4 mode like advertised I would buy it in a heartbeat despite the minor assembly issues!!
