It's a very small footprint unit that gives a UVI reading. It gives consistenly readings. My guess is that it uses the OKI´s ML8511, which I think is now discontinued. Have done several consecutive readings and all of them gave me approximately the same meassurement.
The problem with the OKI ML8511 is that it also responds to a fairly significant amount of visible light. In order to make this one a good one, the influence of visible light should be considered. As vitusierra said, be carefull when putting the battery.
It could cost 10 cents more and include the battery as well.
A good cheap item that will always keep you on the safety side.
