I have tested this one on AMD Athlon64 6400+ and it works as expected. This adapter is not plug-and-play and requires driver installation prior to plugging in the device. I have two screens already and wanted to connect my TV to watch movies, so this device appears as third screen, and it supports HDMI audio out as well. My tv only supports 720p and picture quality was good, I didn't notice any artefacts or frame drops. It is also powered via USB bus which is great!
A little bit pricey, but still a good product overall.
Please note that it will not work on USB 1.1 bus, only on USB 2.0/3.0. It also requires fast multicore CPU on the host computer.
After you install drivers it becomes very easy to connect third monitor (or TV) - just plugin your adapter to HDMI, then to USB2.0 - voila it works!
It is said that there are drivers for Linux - I haven't tested them yet, but I'm sure it wouldn't be that easy to use it as in Windows.
