The lever swings the bug right up and onto the user's hand very quickly. Unless you're opening it very slowly and meticulously, it'll be too fast for the victim to realize what it is before the panic sets in. The etching on the lid gives it away, but amazingly most folks fell for it anyway. They were suspicious, but were still unprepared for a bug to pop out at their hand.
The text engraved on the top is a dead giveaway that this is some kind of trick. It would be more effective if there was no engraving at all.
The lid was kind of warped, which made opening it awkward sometimes.
I bought this for use on April Fool's day and man did I get a lot of people.
Mine came with a rubber centipede instead of a scorpion.
A great prank, fools more people than you'd expect.
