Works just like the Apple adapter, only better. Connects directly to the iPad, and downloads a variety of card types into the photo roll. Very convenient for on the road, especially if you've got a DSLR camera and want to post pictures to social media.
The adapter combines the functionality of TWO Apple products into one that is not much bigger. Fewer things to lose.
Unless you're using the extension cable provided (which is a bit flakey) you may have to remove a case to use this.
The build quality is not bad, but not super-high quality.
The USB<->Card switch is easy to forget about and leave you scratching your head for a while.
I also bought this hoping to connect to an iPhone to make me a lean, mean, world-travelling photo machine. It does not work with iPhones by default and jailbreaking efforts to get USB mass storage working on iPhones have not yet been succesful (despite some fake claims to have mastered it). While it's a small investment - it currently does not work on an iPhone because Apple does not allow it.
Very useful. Buy it if you take photos with a camera.
