Involvement:General (knows how to use it) - Ownership:1 week to 1 month
Easy to configure and program based on examples directly from arduino.
Have some buttons so that you can add some interactivity to your project.
There are two cons I can see now.
1) if you plan to connect something else to the microcontroler, this shield do not allow you to do it as it do not have outputs.
2) is use 6 digital pins from your microcontroler instead of 1 SPI or I2C. This do not have shift register installed so will cut big portion from your outputs/inputs. Count with it.
Again have to point that many pins were bended and you need a luck to align them back so that they fit to arduino board.
Otherwise it is nice shield for basic projects. More complex projects will need another display with extra chip to convert comunication to SPI.
