Cheap and strong servo – MG995 Tower Pro Servo Reviews

Involvement:Expert (understands the inner workings) - Ownership:more than 1 month

Pros:
- High torque - Metal gears - Strong build - Good speed
Cons:
- A lot of play and sometimes jitter - A little overshoot sometimes - Few parts for attaching to the application
Other:
If you buy a lot of these for a single application, like a legged robot or robot arm, you should be careful to check if they are really identical. It seems like there are two different batches around and there are small differences. Some move a little over 180°, with 550-2500 uS pulses, while others move like 150° with 800-2200 uS pulses. Also, I got at least two which were reversed when comparing to a dozen others.
Bottomline:
I've been using these servos for a long time and have owned and used over 20 of them for hobby robotics. They are very good when you need a cheap and strong servo. I'm not into RC models, and word about it in RC forums around is that it's not so reliable. I don't know if that's really the case, but for hobby robotics they are very good.
