The device works perfectly under Windows XP with AVR Studio 4 as STK500. It can write and read FLASH, EEPROM and fuse bits, tested on ATMega88V Pinout can be easily found in Internet (10 Pin AVR ISP) It creates virtual COM port over USB using built-in Prolific PL-2303HX USB-to-COM chip. It also has a pre-programmed ATMega8535L chip that does the actual writing and reading work.
This device DOES NOT work under Windows 8, because it is using Prolific PL-2303HX USB-to-COM chip which is supported only for older Windows versions (WinXP, Win7). Under Windows XP, the device is at first recognized as Motorola Modem, which is wrong, so you have to go to Prolific homepage and download and install PL-2303HX drivers manually.
If you wish to use this device under Winows8, you can try to replace PL-2303HX chip with pin-to-pin compatible PL-2303TA chip (if you can buy it) which is supported by Win8, but you must have good soldering skills.
This device uses an obsolete USB-to-COM chip which is not supported under Windows 8, so if you use Windows 7, Windows XP, Linux or Mac, it will work perfectly, but for newer OS it will not work.
