Great introduction to Macrophotography – Macro Lens Adapter for Canon Reviews

Pros:
1. Cheap
2. Did I mention cheap?
3. Easy to use (simply put your Camera in Aperture-Priority [Av] mode)
Cons:
1. Feels cheap too.
2. No electrical contacts (though there's more than one work-around)
3. Requires a LOT of light (but that's the price you pay for macrophotography)
Other:
Because this has no electrical contacts, it is not able to adjust the aperture on the lens while taking photos.
This is a drawback because if you are shooting wide open, you have EXTREMELY shallow depth of field (compounded by the extreme close-up) where it will be difficult to get more than a thin sliver in focus.
I figured out that I could drop in a cardboard circle with a hole in the middle of it (and I may make several of these with different sized holes for flexibility's sake) so that I won't have to adjust the aperture using the Depth of Field preview method.
Bottomline:
This is a great, inexpensive way to be introduced to Macrophotography. It opens a world where there are miniscule details you wouldn't have noticed at any other time.
Happy shooting!
