Involvement:Expert (understands the inner workings) - Ownership:more than 1 month
This is exactly what it looks like. You unfold it, and theres a block of wax with a hole in the middle. You stick two little metal tabs through it and pull them apart and that keeps the wax block suspended. Light it on fire and the hot air rises and is caught by the balloon. Let it go and watch it fly.
The only con is the price. I don't know what they cost to produce but I wish they were like a buck each so I could buy 20 of them.
I let mine loose in South Florida and it didn't rise very quickly. The factor that most affects the rise of the balloon is the difference between the internal and external temperature. These balloons are safest and best to use in cold weather. I let them loose in probably 85 degree heat and they still worked but they didn't rise very quickly and I was a bit scared they'd land somewhere and start a fire.
Great, unique item. Release in cold weather for best results.
