I had no trouble using it with any Operating System.
Works in Ubuntu without any drivers, shows as a ttyUSB device.
To use in Debian or any similar Linux, you may need to add the standard modules usbserial and pl2303.
To use in XP or Vista, insert the supplied CD before plugging in for the first time.
There is absolutely no user guide.
The serial port is not officially RS232 because it only supports positive voltages. However any device built in the last 10 years should have no trouble with this variant of RS232.
The supplied USB extension cable is very lightweight and is unshielded. It does the job, but just barely.
Some information for hackers:
The case is very soft plastic and can be easily opened with a knife.
The USB and RS232 connectors can be removed without major risk of damaging the board.
When stripped of the external components, the board is very small, and can easliy be added to your project.
This is now my favourite way to connect my microcontroller projects to a PC. It is so cheap that I can put a USB port on every project just in case I might need it for debugging.
