~12 Watts at 120 vac Nominal, Converted Bulb.

posted by apoapsis on 07/07/2010 Certified Owner

Involvement:Expert (understands the inner workings) - Ownership:more than 1 month

    Pros:
Converted bulb tests 110 ma input at 119.7 vac, and supplies ~2.95 vdc (close to the 3 vdc nominal) to a typical LED in 224/225 array. Appears as bright as original 240 vac operation.
    Cons:
Takes a good hour to convert from 240 vac to 120 vac use.

    120 vac Successful Operation.

posted by apoapsis on 07/06/2010 Certified Owner

Involvement:Expert (understands the inner workings) - Ownership:more than 1 month

    Pros:
Can be used at 120 vac if modified, as previously noted, and by increasing the input capacitance by 10 mf. It now has the same light output as the original operated on 240 vac, and has the same LED voltage, 3.00 vdc +- 0.01 vdc.
    Cons:
Takes about 1 hour to modify each bulb and requires a small 10 mf capacitor (200 - 400 vdc rating).
