Very good for the price – Scart DVB-T Digital Terrestrial Receiver + USB PVR with Remote Control Reviews

+ Nice and easy user interface. Quite good remote, albeit small. Doesn't need to be aimed too precisely. IR receiver is also small enough.
+ Pretty sensitive tuner, as good as Nokia 9828T
+ Quite fast when channel surfing
+ Supports multiple USB devices when used with USB hub.
+ Build quality seems sturdy, not like usual china stuff that breaks in pieces when handled.
- AVI support seems somewhat lacking, aspect ratio metadata has to be set with for example MPEG4 Modifier, otherwise it stretches video to full screen. No AC3 decoding, altough according to datasheet the chipset should support it.
- Can only record the channel you are currently watching
- Some of the translations are strange.
- DVB-subtitles are sometimes slow to show up
- Scart connector part is too bulky to fit all TV-sets without modification, I had to cut a piece off around the socket on my old Salora 21K70.
- Has crashed couple of times, particularly in video player app.
Based on Cheertek CT216T chipset, eCos operating system.
Formats i've tested and are working:
Video: Xvid, MPEG1, MPEG2
Audio: MP3, WMA, OGG
Image: JPEG, GIF
Not working:
AAC (Shows up in file browser but wont play)
AC3 (Silence)
Requires fast memory device for timeshifting function to work.
Many of the problems could probably be fixed with firmware update, but getting one seems unlikely. There is however a leaked source code of some CT216 based device circulating in web, so if there are users with embedded system programming experience, take a look.
Very capable unit for the price, apart from problems with xvid playback...
