Tiny little gadget with a huge power supply – SATA/IDE to USB 2.0 Adapter Converter with AC Power Adapter for 2.5/3.5/5.25" Hard Drive Reviews

Involvement:Expert (understands the inner workings) - Ownership:1 day to 1 week

Pros:
- It works (even in Linux, and even with EXT2/3/4 formatted hard drives)
- It's tiny
- It's neat
- It's useful
Cons:
- Power supply is huge
- Power cable supplied is not compatible with EU plugs
- Instructions unseless (what's the yellow cable for?)
- No on/off switch
Other:
It's a tiny little gadget that's very useful to test internal hard drives without opening the case and mounting them.
I actually bought it to use some spare internal HDs as USB drives, and it does its job.
The only disadvantage is the huge power supply unit provided. I'm actually thinking of pulling one 4-pin cable from the PC's PSU to the outside, via the unused floppy drive bay, and use that to power the drives up.
Bottomline:
Pretty useful and working as described.
I would have liked an on-off switch on the power supply, so that one could swap drives without having to remove the plug, though.
Anyway, it works as it should, and it's price is ok (much lower than cradles, which only work with SATA drives, BTW)
